                MAP KIBERA MEETING AT CFK

PRELIMINARIES Mikel acted as chairperson, he welcomed members and read the previous minutes

1. Gedeon Mwakina AGENDA 1. A company that was interested in working with map Kibera group. {Mungotio group}

Min 01/2010 This is a company interested in making the phone companies and the penetration of the same. The came up with an idea of using people from Kibera community and so they gave map Kibera mandate of mobilizing people. This was ; 3 men between 15yrs -30yrs

                                            3women between 15yrs-30yrs
                                            3women between 30yrs-60yrs.

They will produce handsets and airtime. This is purely business and not voluntarism. There might be a long term engagement of which mapping will come sometimes in March. Members requested to come up with the names of the nominees but there ware assigned each and everybody to come with one member even some accepted to come with two members. And so they agreed to come up with names in the next meeting. Mikel told the members the company will have meeting but he was not sure of the dates, so he asked whether there was anybody who was interested to represent the group. Kennedy Ogolla and Maurine Omino accepted to represent the group. Mikel also informed us of the visitors who wanted to film a documentary of what the mappers did, and so the members agreed to meet them in the next meeting and discus that. Then on Friday Gideon Odhiambo and Kevin Boss agreed to assist them go round the street and take the actual film of the mapping.

BRAINSTORMING OVER THE STRENGTH, WEAKNESS AND OPPOETUNITIES OF THE GROUP. STRENGTH. 2.Having respect among each other. 3.Mapping skills. 4.Familiar to our areas. 5.Maintaining unity in the group without the coordinators. 6.Communicating to other organisation and our community about the group and what they do. 7.Knowing what it takes to volunteer and skills to work with in the community.

WEAKNESS. 1.Timekeeping. 2.Ignorance. 3.Misunderstanding. 4.Fear of responsibilities and expression. 5.Lack of trust. 6.Less skill in mapping concerning computer.

OPPORTUNITIES. 1.Working with other community groups and NGOs 2.Mobilizing young people and educating them over peace and violence. 3.Teaching people on how to use GPS. 4.Interacting and welcoming foreigners in Kibera. 5.Interacting with people from other countries because we were the first people to produce Google map. 6.We have been known with many because of mapping activities. 1.Many can penetrate to our group because of the map.

Meeting was adjourned at 4:30pm and agreed that next meeting to be on 11th Feb. 2010 at 2:00pm in KCODA premises.
