Mildred and I went to City Council yesterday to get information on the procedure to follow so as to name or rename streets of roads in Kibera.We were reffered to the Highways and Electrical section on Jogoo road, where we went today.We managed to get some assitance from this office as well as contacts for two officers that we shall keep consulting with.
To name or rename we shall have to meet with the councillors of the different wards in Kibera and work along with them from point one.The officer who spoke to us proposed that we need to engage the community asking them what they should think these streets should be named or what they were called before, once we have these names then the councillor will send a request to City Council, once the names are approved then we can go ahead and name or rename, under a budget of City Council.
We were shown a very blank map of Kibera showing only the main roads, meaning City Council will have to be one of the targets of atlas distribution.We also took advantage of this moment to express our wish for City Council to be present in our launch and the officer was positive.
So, to kickstart the process we shall set up meetings with the councillors of the different wards in Kibera.
