On Thursday, we held the first meeting of the KNN Technical Committee, at KCODA. In attendance were Sizzah, Mike, and Mikel.

TECH REPORTING

We decided on a procedure for reporting and handling technical issues. The main point is that all issues, and work, should be recorded in the log book for effective tracking of recurrent and ongoing issues.

  • When problem develops, KNN member reports the problem to the Technical Committee Representative.
  • The Rep starts a new page in the Log Book
    • record Title, Issue Number, Computer Number, Date, Name of Reporter, Name of Logger, Description of Problem
  • The Log Book is periodically reviewed by Tech Support.
    • Propose solution and write in the Log Book (with Date and Name)
    • Receive authorization. (Under normal circumstances, proceed with work. Equipment purchase requires management approval)
  • Do the work
    • If solved, write short description of the solution, and mark as SOLVED in the log book
    • If not, propose another solution. If problem is intractable, mark as UNSOLVED and escalate problem.

(Technical Committee Representatives are currently Sizzah and Mike) (Tech Support is currently Mike)

This process should be introduced to KNN at the next meeting. Brief notices should be posted in KNN work spaces on how to report problems. Give KNN reminders when they do not follow this process. Sizzah is to write up and print out the logging instructions, and tape inside the log book.

ALLOCATION

On the issue of allocation of computers.

  • A 3rd desktop computer should be installed in the KNN room. Julius has authorized purchase of additional memory, which should have happened this weekend. Mike should have opened an issue in the log book for this.
  • A second laptop can also be installed by GroundTruth in the KNN room, if needed.
  • The computer in the kitchen room is for priority use by all KNN, for final editing and uploading. Other uses are lower priority. Julius will be enforcing this.
  • The second hard drive is in use in the kitchen room computer, but it should be used in the KNN work room.

VIRUS

  • Computer 1 has a full version of Kaspersky, with usb protection. The internal drive is clear.
  • Computer 2 has a trial version of AVG, with NO usb protection. KCODA has authorized purchase of full anti-virus+usb protection. The internal drive is clear.
  • Laptop has a trial version of Kaspersky, with usb protection. KCODA has authorized purchase of full anti-virus+usb protection. As of Thursday, Mike was working on clearing internal drive.
  • All Flip cams need to be scanned and cleared.
  • External hard drives are likely corrupted. Sometime this week, Mikel and Mike will sit to back up hard drives and reformat them.
